Position Opening: Archaeologist/Principal Investigator (Full Time)

Salary Range: $55,000-73,000

 

Wapsi Valley Archaeology, Inc. seeks a Principal Investigator to join our research team! We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable about Midwestern archaeology and Section 106 work; is open to working closely with others; and enjoys fieldwork, analysis, and writing. This person should be willing and able to supervise others in the field and lab. The position will involve (weekly) travel for field projects.

Responsibilities will include:

 

·       Directing Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III archaeological projects in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and other states. 

·       Conduct analysis of both prehistoric and historic archaeological assemblages.

·       Author reports individually and with others as part of a research team.

·       Utilize spatial data with GIS.

 

Position Requirements

·       Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Standards in Archaeology (both Prehistoric and Historic preferred)

·       M.A. or Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology

·       Strong proficiency in GIS

·       Experience supervising field projects

·       Strong research and writing skills

·       Familiarity with archaeology and geomorphology of the region is preferred

About This Area

Wapsi Valley Archaeology’s office is located in the Main Street Historic District in Anamosa, Iowa. Anamosa is the seat of Jones County and lies in rolling hills adjacent to the Wapsipinicon River and a beautiful state park. This is a quiet, rural area. We’re within commuting distance from Marion (20 minutes), Cedar Rapids (30 minutes), and Iowa City (45 minutes). The cost of living here is 13% below the national average, and housing is quite affordable. We can offer assistance in finding a place to live and with moving expenses.
