Background Information
Wapsi Valley Archaeology, Inc. of Anamosa, Iowa, is accepting applications for an Archaeologist/Laboratory Director to join our research team in Anamosa, Iowa. We are about to launch extensive data recovery excavations in Des Moines, Iowa, as well as major archaeological projects in Minnesota and North Dakota. We seek an individual with strong analysis skills, supervisory skills, writing skills, and knowledge of both precontact and historic-era artifact assemblages.
The position will involve management of artifact processing and supervision of analysis of large archaeological assemblages, assistance with report preparation, and archaeological fieldwork.
Candidate Requirements
- M.A. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with archaeological analysis, including artifact analysis of both precontact and historic artifact assemblages, preferably from the upper Midwest and/or Plains regions.
- Strong writing skills are desired.
- Strong organizational and management skills. Ability to teach and supervise laboratory staff.
- Applicants with specialized skills, such as faunal analysis, lithic analysis, ethnobotanical analysis, GIS, etc. are encouraged to apply.
